How do you know if you have Urethral Stricture?

Urinary fluid passes out of the body through a tube called a urethra. This thin tube also plays an important role in ejaculation, for men. Under normal conditions, the bladder empties through the urethra, out of the body also called voiding. A scar from swelling, injury, or infection either blocks or slows the flow of urine in this tube, this condition is called Urethral Stricture.

Urethral Stricture Symptoms are usually related to problems emptying the bladder. These include a slow or interrupted urinary stream, incomplete emptying of the bladder, inability to urinate, pain or burning during urination. Sometimes, these can be associated with urinary frequency, urgency, or urgency incontinence.  When urethra is narrow it decreases urine flow and one could experience symptoms like bloody or dark urine, slow or decreased urine stream, abdominal pain or pain in the pelvic area, urethral leaking or loss of bladder control, Urinary Tract Infections, swelling of the penis, loss of bladder control, etc.

How do you know if you have a Urethral Stricture?

An Advanced diagnosis and treatment can help you detect stricture. If you have observed any of the mentioned symptoms, you must consult your doctor immediately. Your medical history would be required and you shall need to undergo a few tests as recommended by your doctor. The tests are performed to determine the cause, location, and length of the urethral stricture. These include:

  • Urinalysis — Tests for signs of infection, blood, or cancer in your urine.

  • Urinary flow test — This measures the strength and amount of your urine flow.

  • Urethral Ultrasound — This evaluates the length of the stricture.

  • Pelvic Ultrasound — It looks for the presence of urine in your bladder after urination.

  • Pelvic Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) — This test assesses whether your pelvic bone is affecting or is affected by your condition

  • Retrograde Urethrogram — This test uses X-ray images to check for any structural problem or injury of the urethra. It also checks the length and location of the stricture along the urethra.

  • Cystoscopy — This examines your urethra and bladder using a thin, tube-like device fitted with a lens (cystoscope) to view these organs

These tests confirm the presence of your Urethral Stricture and accordingly a Urethral Stricture Treatment is recommended following the observations.

The stricture treatment is decided, depending on how large the blockage is and how much scar tissue is there. Treatment options include:

Urethral Dilation, where the urethra is widened using a series of gradually-larger dilating instruments and a cystoscope.

Internal Urethrotomy, where the cystoscope is used with a special tool to cut the ring of scar tissue and open the area-of-blockage.

Urethral Reconstruction is usually needed when dilation or Urethrotomy fails and when the stricture returns. Urethroplasty or surgical reconstruction of the urethra is generally treated as a permanent cure.

The present stricture treatments carry life deteriorating risks but leaving it untreated will do much more damage. To solve this issue, Regrow Biosciences has introduced the safest stricture treatment called UREGROW. It is an autologous treatment that eliminates risks significantly.
